Singer Jessie J has clarified she is not cancer-free after fans misunderstood a recent social media post about her breast cancer journey.
The 37-year-old explained that her statement about cancer being “all gone” was a hopeful affirmation accompanied by a fingers-crossed emoji, not a confirmed fact.
“You have misunderstood my post,” the Grammy nominee wrote on Instagram Stories on Friday. “This was a positive affirmation NOT a fact. I don’t have my results yet.”
The clarification comes after media outlets reported she had announced being cancer-free. Jessie is still awaiting test results following breast cancer surgery six nights ago.
The misunderstanding arose from a post Jessie shared earlier this week listing “pros and cons” following her surgery. Under the pros section, she had written “Cancer has all gone” with a fingers-crossed emoji.
“I posted a list of pros and cons of having breast cancer surgery. The first pro I put was… The cancer has all gone [fingers crossed emoji],” she explained.
“I added the emoji in thinking people would understand and clearly a lot didn’t.”
The singer acknowledged her role in the confusion. “A weird situation. My fault for not being clearer,” she wrote.
The original post had been widely reported as confirmation that Jessie was cancer-free, prompting her to issue the clarification on Friday evening.
Jessie emphasised the ongoing nature of her cancer journey. “But for now I do not have my results after surgery which was only 6 nights ago. I pray it will be true soon but the journey of cancer isn’t that simple unfortunately,” she wrote.

The singer, whose real name is Jessica Cornish, revealed her “early” breast cancer diagnosis three weeks ago.
She underwent surgery late last week and returned home on Monday to await results.
Following the clarification, Jessie announced she would be taking a week’s break from social media.
“Tapping off socials for a week. Healthy and needed reset. To focus on my recovery and saying stuff that gets twisted or misread,” she posted.
The original posts that sparked confusion included candid reflections on her recovery. In her pros list, Jessie mentioned being able to watch Love Island “with no guilt” and praised her partner Chanan Colman for “making me feel safe and the massages are 10/10”.
She also expressed gratitude for her mother Rose living with them and her two-year-old son Sky “just being Sky”.
Her cons list revealed the emotional toll of recovery. “Not being able to be the Mum I’m used to being and not picking Sky up,” she wrote, adding: “The fear of not knowing if the cancer is all gone – the mental with this is [foggy face emoji].”
She also described physical discomforts including pain when sneezing and digestive issues from anaesthetic and painkillers.
