Eamonn Holmes has lauded the love and affection he receives from his pet dog Maggie during a candid discussion with former England manager Glenn Hoddle and GB News co-star, Paul Coyte.
The trio, who are all rescue dog owners, discussed the perks that come with owning their beloved pooches during a chat on Paul and Eamonn’s podcast, Things We Like with Eamonn & Paul.
Each week, the duo speaks with a famous face about all the things they like in their lives.
And this week, after a chat about Hoddle’s decorated football career and his unwavering passion for the sport, the conversation turned closer to home.
“Well, I like Spurs winning,” Hoddle quipped to Paul and Eamonn during their chat before he delved into the love he feels for his family’s new pet.
“I’ll tell you what I do like, I must say… two months ago, Lisa, my partner, and I took a rescue dog in. I’ve never had a dog in my life…”
Knowing exactly where Hoddle was coming from, Eamonn chipped in: “Changed my life, mate. Changed my life 17 years ago. A rescue dog changed it.”
“Absolutely,” Paul agreed before Hoddle delved into why it had taken him so long to open his home up to a pet pooch.
He said: “I got scratched by an Alsatian when I was four, right on the cheek, so I think I was scared all through school, and I wasn’t interested in having a dog, I really wasn’t.
“But now we’ve got it, oh my word, you know, until you have that special relationship… I never believed it before.”
Reiterating the close bond he has with his own dog, Maggie, Eamonn chimed back in: “A dog wouldn’t give any other thing on earth the love that it gives you for rescuing it.”
Hoddle agreed. “Absolutely. Eamonn, we’ve only had him two months and… particularly dogs, they’re here to teach us,” he replied.

“They’re here to teach us unconditional love, and we could learn a lot from dogs and that’s hit me very quickly in two months.”
Paul echoed the sentiment being shared by Eamonn and their podcast guest. “Me and Eamonn speak about that a lot, about dogs,” he revealed.
“One of my dogs is ill at the moment, and it’s just breaking my heart. It is just that truly unconditional love,” Paul agonised.
He added: “I think a way you can tell is, are you now showing pictures of your dog on your phone, Glenn? Whereas years before it was your kids, and now you’re going, ‘Look at my dog’?”
Hoddle answered: “I can’t put him in front of my grandchildren at the moment because they’re very special, but yeah… I like that side, taking him out for walks… It’s wonderful.
“Giving him that freedom! He looks at us, and it’s like he’s thanking us for what we’ve done for him because he’s in a rescue home, and it’s great what they do, but it’s horrible in some ways.”
It’ll come as no surprise to fans of Eamonn just how dear he holds Maggie in his heart, with the GB News favourite regularly providing updates on his beloved dog on social media over the years.
Now approaching 16 years of age, Maggie seemed as spritely as ever in an update Eamonn shared with her back in January.
In an adorable moment, Maggie showed her affection for Eamonn as she licked away at his ear while he filmed away in his car.
Eamonn has previously described Maggie as his “shadow”, revealing in a post from July 2023 that “the alarm goes off and every morning at 3am, Maggie stands guard until I get up”.
In other Maggie updates, Eamonn has described their bond as “better than medicine” and admitted he “smiles a mile” when spending time with her.
Eamonn and Paul will return with another famous face in an all-new episode of their podcast next week.
So far, the GB News duo have sat down with the likes of Sir David Jason, Sally Gunnell, Ray Winstone, and Barry McGuigan for an intimate discussion about their likes and dislikes.
