
Sir Rod Stewart has issued his first public comments since his son Sean, 44, checked into rehab.
The 80-year-old rocker made the announcement on Instagram days after reports of a family intervention also emerged.
An insider told MailOnline: “Sean is in rehab for pill addiction. He’s had a long history of drug addiction, and he decided to get help when he was falling off the deep end again.”

Another insider claimed: “There was a family intervention because they were worried. They are all able to see when Sean is sober and when he is not,”
They added that Stewart is particularly proud of his son’s decision to seek help, adding: “In the end, Sean voluntarily checked in to save himself.
“Rod is proud of him for getting help. He is expected to do a 90 day stay, which is the norm.”
Sean is the Stewart’s eldest son among eight children the rock star has with five different women.
The Maggie May hitmaker has remained tight-lipped on the news in recent days but has now remerged on social media.
Stewart announced he was due to take the stage at the Festival d’ete de Quebec, Canada’s second largest music festival held in the French speaking province.
“Quebec City, I am playing @festivaleteqc passes on sale now,” he wrote.
Accompanying the update was a set list of the various acts taking to the stage in July.
Stewart is yet to address his son’s rehab visit directly.
However, his wife Penny Lancaster also took to Instagram hours after the news broke with a cryptic message about overcoming obstacles with the right mindset.
The reposted quote read: “If you believe it will work out, you’ll see opportunities. If you believe it won’t you’ll see obstacles.
“Your mindset is everything,” alongside a heart GIF.
