Celebrity MasterChef stars have now been whittled down to the final six, but the latest elimination didn’t go down too well with some BBC viewers, who thought the wrong man was booted off.
With seven famous faces left, This Morning host Craig Doyle was allowed to sit out the final task after securing a place in the next round following the first challenge. The final task of the episode saw the remaining contestants cooking judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace a pizza.
“We’ve got a fabulous challenge for you,” announced Wallace.
Torode added: “In this round, you are cooking for a brief, and that brief is to cook for Gregg and I a pizza.
“We want a pizza dough, a sauce to go across that dough, and then various toppings. But we’re also going to ask you to fire your own wood-fired oven.
“And maintain the temperature so that your pizza is cooked absolutely perfectly.” Steps star Ian “H” Watkins immediately had an idea for the Italian dish.
When asked by the judges what he had decided to do, H explained: “So when Steps shout our video for One For Sorrow, it was in Italy. I had the most amazing pizza there.
“And it was blue cheese and steak. So I’m doing – if you’re a Steps fan, you may know this reference – a deeper shade of blue cheese and steak pizza.”
Speaking to cameras, Torode expressed his concern about H’s idea, admitting: “What H is attempting to do could be truly delicious – classic tomato base,” but going on to predict the pizza could become “too soggy”.
When he’d completed the pizza, H didn’t have very long to cook it, which ended up damaging his dough base. After sampling the dish, Torode commented: “H, you don’t give up. You had literally 30 seconds to cook the pizza.”
“It’s not quite cooked all the way through,” he added as he revealed some uncooked dough before assuring the singer: “But your flavours are great.”
He continued: “Steak – nice and rich and lovely. Your tomato sauce is ace – slightly chunky, a little bit rustic.”
Wallace had similar issues with the pizza, explaining the flavours were “wonderful” but going on to add: “We’ve got an issue with your pizza dough.”
“I’m a bit deflated by that,” an upset-looking H confessed to the cameras. However, it was good news for him when it came to elimination time.
