
Welsh television presenter Gethin Jones has shared the emotional news of his father’s passing following a period of ill-health.
Jones told fans his father has been “poorly for a while” in a heartfelt post shared by the television presenter, 47, which included the final picture of his dad in hospital.
In the image, Jones can be seen playing his father Hymns and Arias from his phone just hours before his death.
Jones said it was “the most perfect, peaceful,” end. adding “Welsh hymns playing, and the grandsons on speaker phone saying goodbye.”

His dad, Goronwy Jones, had “put up a good fight” and his passing “highlighted the importance of faith”.
In Jones’s touching Instagram post, he shared appreciation for the NHS staff who were there to care for his father in his final days, his sister being one of them.
“But this time, she was also the daughter. One of the strongest I know,” he shared. He added that his sister “didn’t miss a beat”.
The importance of humour for the family was also highlighted in this touching tribute as he spoke about his sister’s Whatsapp group with her friends.

“A little mention to her WhatsApp group with her mates. Finding the humour when needed is so important isn’t it… along with the unconditional support. A tough old week. But lucky in so many ways. #AmyneddYwAmodLlwyddo,” Jones penned.
Elsewhere in his tribute, Jones continued to talk about his father’s legacy and what a large impact he had on education.
“Every day I’ve been at the Heath Hospital in Cardiff, someone would stop me and ask about dad. He probably taught them at some point.”
Jones explains that his father was a teacher for 40 years, a headmaster for 28 of them. “He was strict and direct, always reasonable.”
Jones closed his emotional caption with the message: “A tough old week. But lucky in so many ways.”
Several famous names who are close friends of Jones were quick to share their condolences to show their support.
Sir Chris Hoy commented: “So sorry to hear it mate, but heartwarming to see him surrounded with love. X.”
Presenter Gaby Roslin weighed in: “Sending you so much love and my deepest sympathies to you and your whole family.
“I am so sorry Geth, But they always stay in our hearts forever.”
And his The One Show colleague Alex Jones shared her condolences in Welsh: “Meddwl amdano ti Geth. Loads o gariad atoch chi gyd,” which translates to: “Thinking of you Geth. Loads of love to you all.”
