Eamonn Holmes has disclosed his intention to have his beloved 17-year-old rescue dog Maggie preserved through taxidermy when she passes away.
Speaking on on GB News, the 65-year-old broadcaster discussed his unusual plans with co-host Ellie Costello, suggesting the canine companion would be “taxidermy material” due to her small stature.
Talking about his beloved pet, Eamonn said: “She’s taxidermy material. She’s about the size of a fox, so she could just sit very nicely on the mantel.

Shocked, Ellie asked him: “Wouldn’t that upset you too much?”
Eamonn explained: “No, wouldn’t upset me, it would make me feel quite good. I’ve got a bronze statue of her made.”
“When it was made, you had her and the statue together, and you couldn’t tell which was which. But look, it’s love.
“Dogs bring out the best love in you. It’s unconditional love. You’ll never experience anything else like it. And it’s been that way for me for 17 years.”
As a picture of Eamonn and his pet flashed on screen, Ellie said: “Oh, look at her! You haven’t changed a dot. She’s gone a little bit grey, but she’s still smiling.”
Eamonn explained: “Because she’s an adopted dog, I think she appreciates the new home she’s got and the life she was taken away from.”
Ellie agreed: “She’s grateful, isn’t she? I get that from her.”

The GB News presenter and his former spouse Ruth Langsford continue to share custody of Maggie following their divorce proceedings.
The couple, who were married for 14 years and have a 22-year-old son named Jack, adopted the rescue dog from Dogs Trust in 2011.
In a recent Instagram post featuring himself with Maggie, Holmes acknowledged his ex-wife’s primary caregiving role, writing: “Ruth does all the hard stuff with her because of my wheelchair restrictions.”
Despite his physical restrictions requiring wheelchair use, Holmes maintains regular contact with Maggie and shared photographs of their recent reunion in sunny weather.
“In many ways she reminds me of my dearly departed Mum – a really bad knee and hardly any teeth left but not bad for a 17 year old!” he posted.
Eamonn has been a vocal advocate for animal rescue organisations, serving as a patron for K-9 Angels while promoting adoption over purchasing pets.
“Maggie changed my life,” the presenter declared on Instagram, encouraging followers to support charities including Dogs Trust.
