Former Superman actor Dean Cain has announced that he has joined US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice).
In a social media video explaining his decision, Cain encouraged others to apply for positions at the agency, citing benefits like student loan repayments and a $50,000 (£37,000) signing bonus.
The 59-year-old actor said: “I am a sworn law enforcement officer, as well as being a filmmaker, and I felt it was important to join with our first responders to help secure the safety of all Americans, not just talk about it. So I joined up.

“If you want to help save America, Ice is arresting the worst of the worst and removing them from America’s streets.
“They need your help, we need your help, to protect our homeland for families.
“Join today if it’s something that tickles your fancy because we can use you.”
Cain, who played the “man of steel” between 1993 and 1997, praised the agency’s work under the Trump administration, crediting them with taking “terrorists, rapists, murderers, paedophiles, MS-13 gang members [and] drug traffickers” off the streets of America.
The former Superman star’s announcement comes in the midst of a recruitment drive from Homeland Security to encourage more to become Ice agents.
On Thursday, the department’s Secretary Kristi Noem announced that age limits for new applicants would be waived in a bid to entice “more patriots” to join the agency.
And just last week, Noem released a statement telling the American people that “your country is calling you to serve at Ice… Together, we must defend the homeland.”
ICE is reportedly seeking to fill 14,000 roles, including 10,000 new “deportation agent” vacancies.

And the recruitment drive comes in the face of increased scrutiny of Ice in recent weeks.
A series of immigration raids in Los Angeles sparked several demonstrations in the Californian city, which is estimated to be home to over one million undocumented migrants.
Protests have also erupted in several other major cities including New York City, Chicago and Boston – sparking fury from the entertainment elite, including Kim Kardashian, Cardi B and Jimmy Kimmel.
More than 109,000 arrests have been made by Ice since Trump returned to the White House in January.
Cain’s announcement video on social media sparked a range of reactions among users.
One commenter fumed: “Shame on you Dean — that’s the most un-Superman thing you could possibly advocate.”
However, others jumped to the actor’s defence, with one user saying: “You really are Superman – that is so cool”.
