This week’s Great British Sewing Bee left plenty of fans in agreement over a decision made by judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young.
It came as the sewers were tasked with a series of challenges as always, each honouring different fashion icons.
The contestants faced the challenge of making Diane von Furstenberg’s signature wrap dress and channeling Vivienne Westwood with punk-inspired fashion.
The final task saw the talented sewers creating luxurious garments inspired by Versace, but one contestant admitted they weren’t a big fan.
Caz, 59, decided to go against tradition with a new look on her garment, explaining: “I don’t really like that early black and gold Versace, it’s not me.”
Grant had explained to the sewers that there were different designs they could take inspiration from, with the medusa head, black and gold and bondage-like attire.
Caz later continued: “Well, I’m not a huge Versace fan, but when I read up, they said that Donatella gets inspiration from anywhere and everywhere.
“I watch a lot of films, so this is inspired by the Dorothy dress in the Wizard of Oz.”
The end result was a fresh take on the classic look, with a gingham style dress replacing the traditional colours.
As the episode concluded, the judges revealed Caz had won Garment of the Week, leaving Caz delighted.
“We loved it, we really thought it was so well thought-through, so original – well done,” Grant commented.
However, fans soon flooded X to express their disagreement with the judges’ choice of winner.
“That was the most boring garment of the week. Yes it was made well but just boring to look at #SewingBee,” one complained.
“They chose the Dorothy dress as the garment of the week?! Are they blind?! That gold and black dress was right there #SewingBee,” a second added.
“What a s***e garment of the week! #SewingBee,” a third wrote, with another commenting: “The Dorothy Does Bondage dress got garment of the week #SewingBee.”
“Easy to win garment of the week when everyone is working with hard fabrics and you make a dorothy dress instead #sewingbee,” someone else remarked.
“The Caz dress was more The Waltons than Versace #SewingBee,” another agreed.
However, there were some fans of Caz’s dress, with one viewer writing: “Garment of the week Caz. Well done! #SewingBee.”
