Sir Elton John is understood to have stepped in to try to help the Beckham family reunite as the row between parents Victoria and David with oldest son Brooklyn rages on.
John, 78, is Brooklyn’s godfather and has seemingly supported the estranged son and brother by sharing comments on the 26-year-old’s Instagram posts amid the feud.
The singing legend is now believed to have hosted Brooklyn and his wife Nicola Peltz for lunch in Cannes alongside his husband, David Furnish.
Meeting at the La Guerite beach club, the group are understood to have chatted about the ongoing row which has seen the couple distance themselves from the rest of the Beckham clan.
“Elton is the showbiz equivalent of Switzerland,” a source explained, adding: “He’s utterly neutral in this row.
“Elton of old may have relished in taking sides – in this case, his young godson, Brooklyn, but two years off his 80th birthday, he’s a man who has seen and done it all. He just wants everyone to be happy,” they added to The Sun.
Making clear John’s attempts to unite the family, the insider concluded: “There is no side-taking as such; he simply adores his godson, and really has a laugh with Nicola, who he thinks has a great sense of humour.
“He wants to look after them in his role as ‘spiritual adviser’ as a godfather.”
The publication went on to claim that John and husband David believe the situation to be very sad, with the Your Song singer thought to be reminding the duo that “life is short” and encouraging them to make peace with Brooklyn’s mother and father, David and Victoria, and his siblings, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper.
It’s thought the gathering wasn’t solely focused on the rift, although it is believed to have been mentioned.
Sir Elton previously seemed to make his stance clear on the feud after leaving a sweet comment on Brooklyn’s post celebrating the anniversary of his proposal to Peltz, 30.
Last month, the aspiring chef shared a post dedicated to his wife to mark five years since he proposed to her, and pointedly wrote in the caption that it had been the “best decision ever”.
Neither David nor Victoria publicly responded to the photo, with no social media likes from them, but godfather John emphasised his loyalties to the young Beckhams.
He tagged the pair in the comment section and shared: “Happy Anniversary to the sweetest, most loving couple.”
His husband Furnish, 62, also shared a supportive comment as he wrote: “Happy Anniversary to the gorgeous couple.”
The public show of support comes as the couple has largely faced criticism from the general public for the row.
It may have come as a surprise to David and Victoria, who have long been friends with the singer.
The former football legend is known to affectionately call him “uncle Elton”.
