GB News Political Editor Christopher Hope has admitted it was “hard to be happy” on his wedding day.
The People’s Channel favourite shared his wedding experience while congratulating fellow GB News star Ellie Costello on her big day.
Christopher said his big day was somewhat soured by ongoing developments elsewhere.
“We got married on the same day Princess Diana was buried”, he said.
“It was a very happy day for us, but it was quite hard being married on a day of national mourning.
“The wedding bells were muffled. I wrote an article for The Times about being happy on a day of national mourning.”

Christopher said potential avenues to reschedule the wedding were scuppered by legal terms.
“You are insured against cancellation but cancelling to not appear unseemly on a day of national mourning wasn’t covered.”
Following her tragic passing in August 1997, Diana was laid to rest the following month on September 6.
Her final farewell coincided with Christopher’s wedding day, making the experience somewhat unique for GB News’s political mastermind.
Christopher told People’s Channel viewers his story on the day Ellie Costello celebrated tying the knot.
While Ellie married her partner Gerard Duran in April, she is today celebrating with family and friends.
GB News Breakfast co-host Stephen Dixon is among the guests.
Her marriage comes after they announced their engagement in November 2023.
Costello shared the happy news on social media at the time, posting a photo showing off her engagement ring.
In her announcement, she wrote: “There’s so little good news in the world right now… I hope you don’t mind me sharing some of my own. I said YES.”
