Strictly Come Dancing star Dianne Buswell has cleared up engagement rumours after fans went into a meltdown about the couple’s relationship status.
The professional dancer addressed speculation that she and her boyfriend Joe Sugg had become engaged following her recent trip to Australia.
During a recent appearance on Good Morning Britain, Buswell was promoting her upcoming tour with fellow Strictly professional Vito Coppola when she was questioned by host Susanna Reid about the rumours.
The Australian dancer explained there was a simple explanation behind the confusion that had fans convinced she was set to wed.
Buswell revealed that the misunderstanding had come from her swollen fingers during her flight to Australia.
“It’s a really funny story! I was in Australia and it’s quite hot over there. I had just flown in and my fingers get a little bit swollen on the plane,” she explained.

The dancer had been wearing rings on her right hand but moved them to her left due to the swelling.
When she shared photos with her family online, fans quickly jumped to conclusions about her relationship status.
“So I had a couple of rings on my right hand, but because they were swollen, I had to take them off and I put them on my left hand.
“I’m taking pictures with my family and I put them online so everyone thought I was engaged. I’m not engaged.”
Ed Balls, who was co-hosting the breakfast show, jokingly responded: “Joseph, what are you doing? What’s he doing, seriously?”
Buswell laughed at his comment, simply replying: “I know! Joe!”
Buswell and Sugg’s relationship began in 2018 when they were paired together on Strictly Come Dancing.
The couple went public with their romance later that year once the series had ended and moved in together in 2019.
They purchased their first home in 2021 before upgrading to a bigger home in Brighton in 2023 – being closer to the Youtuber’s siter, Zoe Sugg.
Marriage has also been a common question the couple have received over the years, and in 2021 Buswell told HELLO! “I’m quite an unorganised person actually.
“Joe and I don’t really talk about that kind of thing [marriage]. We’re both so relaxed so we just play it by ear.”
Despite their relaxed approach, both Buswell and Sugg have expressed interest in starting a family someday.
Speaking to HELLO! Again earlier this year, Buswell admitted: “Joe and I, we both love kids, so of course one day we would love to have our own children.”
