The final episode of four-part thriller series The Au Pair aired on Thursday, with the drama’s conclusion throwing in several plot twists.
Despite the unravelling story and the eventual conclusion though, many viewers were left unimpressed, with some blasting the “four hours I won’t get back”.
The Channel 5 series followed Zoe Dalton (Sally Bretton) and her husband Chris (Kenny Doughty), whose worlds turned upside down when French au pair Sandrine (Ludmilla Makowski) entered their lives.
Prior to the finale, Zoe discovered Sandrine was in fact the daughter she believed to have died at birth when she was 15 years old.
During Thursday’s episode though, Zoe found out the truth, and it also transpired that Chris had been involved in illegally selling babies of vulnerable young women to families in France.
Additionally, it was revealed Zoe’s father George (David Suchet) knew about the scheme, although he wasn’t aware of the extent to which Chris had become involved, or that his granddaughter had become embroiled in it.
Ultimately, Chris was arrested and, despite previously trying to murder several characters, Sandrine was welcomed into the family.
Despite all the questions finally being answered though, the final episode left fans fuming over the “unbelievable” story.
