Fans were left shocked by the news, as one commented: “She was fantastic in that show, and the show was brilliant in its own right.”
“HOW VERY SAD. SHE WILL BE MISSED,” another penned before someone else added: “Sorry to hear that, dogs are part of the family.”
“Now I’m sad. We don’t deserve dogs,” a fourth noted as another expressed: “I’m sorry to hear about this. May she rest in peace.”
Another sad fan said: “Urgh so s**t losing a pet, it’s like losing a family member!” (sic)
After the show came to an end, Anti appeared in an advert for Gervais’ vodka brand, Dutch Barn Orchard Vodka.
The pair sat on a bench with Gervais, similar to a bench from the series, leaving fans thrilled at their reunion.
Anti’s owner, Mr Foster, previously opened up about the unique bond Gervais and Anti had and said: “‘It’s been quite a beautiful thing.
“Recently they’ve released a lot of trailers of just him [Gervais] and her [Anti] together with Queen’s Your My Best Friend song, when you look at things like that it’s quite sad.
“I like to think of it as the perfect time capsule of her, I know she’s never going to die in After Life but when she does go that’s going to be the thing I remember her by.”
Speaking of how she was treated when at home, Mr Foster added: “She is very special to me. She is basically the queen of the family. Almost worshipped in our house.
