Wynne Evans and Katya Jones were the latest pair to be eliminated from this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, with the two making their exit during the milestone Blackpool Week.
The opera singer, 52, made a gracious exit on Sunday’s results show but was back to discuss his Strictly journey on Monday’s spin-off show, It Takes Two, where a surprise guest left him in tears.
Evans and Jones’ Charleston didn’t impress the judges as much as they had hoped, and it seems the public had failed to be gripped by the performance as well, and the two ended up in the dreaded dance-off alongside Montell Douglas and Johannes Radebe.
The judges unanimously decided to save Douglas and Redabe, meaning it was time for the Go Compare advert star to bid farewell to the BBC competition.
“Now that the dust has settled, how are you feeling?” Host Fleur East asked Evans on the chat show.
“I feel incredible about it,” the singer beamed. “The whole journey, as we say, and to end in Blackpool was really the icing on the cake really.”
He quickly quipped: “Well, I mean apart from winning… That would have been better!”
“So many people have said how gutted they are that you are leaving,” East pointed out before introducing a surprise guest.
“And we have someone here who will miss you quite a bit… Jamie, do you want to come in?” She called.
EastEnders star and Evans’ fellow Strictly competitor Jamie Borthwick emerged, quickly pulling Evans into a big hug.
Seating himself between the couple, the 30-year-old commented: “You guys!”
“Jamie, what do you want to say to your best mate?” East probed, to which the actor explained: “I just want to say, it has just been the best nine weeks, and who would have thought that this man and me would become best mates?”
He continued: “It’s the duo no one knew they needed!
“It has just been absolutely brilliant. It’s not going to be the same, but I’ve got a friend for life.”
Paying tribute to Evans, he added: “He’s amazing this man, he really is,” turning to Jones, he went on: “And so is she as well.
“And he could not have been with anyone else. He had to be with Katya.”
