Great British Bake Off was back on Tuesday with this year’s edition of Bread Week, and as always, Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith were observing the bakers with a fine-tooth comb.
While there were a few tears from some, it was a victorious week for others, including Nelly, who became emotional after coming first in the technical challenge.
Nelly explained she struggled to accept compliments because she was used to being told she wasn’t good enough, so to be acknowledged by bread expert Hollywood meant the world to her.
Fellow baker Dylan came last in the technical challenge, but he managed to redeem himself when he got a handshake from Hollywood in the showstopper challenge.
Despite this, many fans felt Nelly deserved to be crowned Star Baker of the Week for her consistent success and technical challenge win during the week.
However, Hollywood, 58, and Leith, 84 opted to award the title to Dylan, who was of course delighted.
While most agreed Dylan’s bakes had been impressive, many questioned why Nelly hadn’t been given the award, with some fuming she had been “robbed”.
Taking to X, one fumed: “Wow how tf was Nelly not star baker? !!!?!! ROBBERY!!!! #GBBO.”
“Ain’t no way Nelly didn’t get star baker. That’s some BS #GBBO,” another shared.
A third added: “So basically the technical round means nothing and Star Baker is based purely on the showstopper? Why bother with a ranked technical? Nelly was robbed. #gbbo.”
Someone else posted: “Surprised Nelly didn’t get star baker, but Dylan is definitely a contender to win #GBBO.”
“Nelly robbed. Dylan did really well but how do you come last in the Technical and win Star Baker? #GBBO,” another pointed out.
However, others believed Dylan deserved the win, with one writing: “Dylan is exceptional, when he’s allowed to let his creative juices flow his bakes are just sublime. Well deserving of Star Baker this week. Incredible! #GBBO.” (sic)
Unfortunately, one baker had to leave and this time it was John, who faced a few hurdles with his bread.

After getting tearful earlier in the show, John seemed to expect the sad news as the episode ended.
“It is fine, it was expected, it was just a bad week this week,” he summarised.
He reflected: “It’s just how it is. Because everyone is so talented, you drop the ball and then it is your time to go.
“From being the first star baker of this season, then to having a really good week last week… The tears are tears of pride, yeah.”
