Amanda Holden has admitted she was left in tears after hearing the Princess of Wales reveal she’d completed her chemotherapy treatment in a new video released by the royals on Monday.
Princess Kate has spent much of 2024 out of the public eye after announcing she’d been diagnosed with cancer earlier this year but made a rare return this week to share the positive news.
In a video released by Kensington Palace, the Princess of Wales can be seen enjoying some leisure time with her husband Prince William and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Princess Kate stated: “As the summer comes to an end, I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment. The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown.”
The royal went on to describe her “cancer journey” as “complex, scary and unpredictable” while admitting it’s given her and William the time “to reflect and be grateful for the simple yet important things in life”.
Princess Kate continued: “Doing what I can to stay cancer-free is now my focus. Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes.”
The royal even referenced a return to public duties and “looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can”.
She concluded her video with a message to fellow cancer sufferers, signing off: “I remain with you, side by side, hand in hand. Out of darkness, can come light, so let that light shine bright.”
Hours after the video was released, Britain’s Got Talent star and radio presenter Holden took to the airwaves to reveal just how much Princess Kate’s words moved her.
She said during her breakfast show on Tuesday: “Did you see the gorgeous video that Kensington Palace put up of Princess Kate? I mean I was weeping, I just was weeping.
“What a brave battle and to do it all in public. As a family, they just look so tight. You look at it and go, ‘Aren’t we all lucky?’
“Health and your family are just the most important thing. I felt awful that she had to sit there and explain herself in the first place because of the press and social media, that made me spoil with anger.
“So now I hope that she’s done this and they can get off her back and she can quietly drift back into public life. I just wish them all the very best.”
Holden wasn’t alone as once the clip was shared on the Heart Instagram page, listeners rushed to echo the sentiment shared by the 53-year-old.
One fan replied: “100% agree, the press should have backed off and given her time and space to reveal her diagnosis if she chose to.”
“Well said what a beautiful video and how well they have all borne it as always Amanda captures the sentiments x,” a second added.
